Botnets Are After Your Computer

We all should be aware of the need to protect our computers from outside threats. Unless something obvious happens, you probably believe that your computer is safe, but is it. This week’s article looks at botnets and the treat that they pose to computers at home and in business locations. Go to the link below and read the article. Write a reflective comment that shows you have read the article, expresses your views, and addresses my questions.

How safe do you believe that your computer at home is from outside threats? Does your computer have anti-virus software running on it? Are the virus definitions up to date? Does your computer have a firewall? Does your computer have a program to detect spyware? Has your computer or the computer of someone you know ever been attacked? How did you or the person you know deal with the problem? What should be done about botnets? What should be done with people who are involved in these illegal activities?

I believe that my computer at home isn’t safe at all, with the Internet, every single site you go on could have a virus and you wouldn’t know. Yes my computer has anti-virus software running on it. I don’t think the virus definitions are up to date because we haven’t really used our computer since we’ve moved. My dad does all the virus stuff, but I think my computer has a firewall and spyware but I couldn’t be sure. My mom’s friend and a couple of my friend’s computers have been attacked from too much downloading. For one of my friends her uncle deals with computers so he had to fix her computer, but it took a while to make sure everything was clear. Bontnets should be stopped. The people who are involved in the illegal activities should be found, because it’s not like every family could afford to repair damage that they have don’t to another’s computer

I don't think my computer is safe because I go on to alot of sites for projects and just to have fun but I don't know if there is a virus connected to those sites everytime I log on. Yes my computer does have anti-virus software. Yes, our virus definitions are up to date. Our computer does have a firewall. We do have a program to detect spyware. Yes we know someone who has been attacked. I don't know how they delt withnthe problem. Botnets should be destroyed. I heard of this one computer thing on Oprah that in one county that a sheriff uses it to find people who are using illeagel activities on the internet.

I agree with them. I don’t think my computer is 100% safe, but I don’t think it can be, because when you’re on the internet, there sometimes are pop-ups that hold viruses, or if you’re checking your email and you get mail from someone you don’t know and you open it, it may contain a virus. The only way to trigger it is if you open the mail. So I never open mail if I don’t know who it’s from. I either ask someone if they sent it or I delete it. Botnets are dangerous because you might not know if it's on your computer or what it’s doing. I think they can be stopped by upgrading your anti-virus or firewalls and putting security around the applications or programs that are weak or unstable.

I can understand why people hack but not viruses. Turning off computers just for the sake of it sounds really stupid. People should have an anti-virus before even turning on their computers for the first time. I wouldn't trust anything on my computer to be completely safe because of the fact that in this world their are bad people and good people and some people who have no lives so they create little parasites to destroy one persons fun.

I believe my computer at home is pretty safe because it has many anti-virus programs and it is a Macintosh, which doesn’t have a lot of viruses attacking them. I have two anti-virus programs on my computer. My computer’s virus definitions are updated every day. My computer has a firewall, which is up, and running. My old Microsoft computer has been attacked several times. The next day I took it to a store for virus removal. Yes, my computer does have a program to detect spyware. If a computer is found in a botnet, the police should be notified and the FBI should locate the botnet server. The people involved in these illegal activities should be sentenced to 20 years of prison.

I know that my computer at home isn't safe but I have anti virus programmed and they are up to date. When a new version comes out I download it. I also have a firewall on the computer. I turn on the anti virus program every time a start the computer or when I go on it. I once had a virus on my computer when my brother downloaded something from the internet. I solved it by giving it to a computer guy at my dads office. I think that people that have nothing else to do than making viruses are very pointless when they can get a job and earn money.

I think mine is really safe, because I don’t go to a lot of sites and I don’t download almost anything other than updating some stuff. I do have anti-virus software running on and I think they are up to date. And it does have a firewall protecting my PC. I don’t have a program to detect spyware and I know no one who has been attacked near me. I think bonnets should be STRICTILLY illegal and whoever is involved should get life sentence.

Every time I hear about these viruses going around, I feel relieved that I have a Mac. Since it is not a PC, I think my computer is safe from threats like botnets. My computer does not have anti virus software or firewall protection or anything of the sort because we feel that it is not as much at risk. I do not know anyone whose computer has been attacked and mine definitely hasn't. I think botnets should be investigated by the US government, which could probably do a lot more for the problem that some smaller organization. I think that people who are caught using botnets should receive the same punishment as anyone who violates personal property, because they are pretty much the same thing.

I don't believe that that my computer is safe because I get may viruses on my computer even when I use systems for protection. Yes my computer has a fire wall , but it has also been attacked before. We dealt with the problem by letting a friend of ours that was an expert in computers fix it.

I think that my computer is safe but still vulnerable to these viruses. My computer has different security systems on it but according to the article, its not enough. I have Kaspersky Internet Security and Windows Defender. My security systems are up to date and I have a firewall. I do not have a device that can detect spy ware. My computer has never been attacked by any computer viruses but I have a friend whose computer got a virus and kept shutting down after a certain amount of time. This person could not do anything about the problem and was forced to buy another computer. I think the government should get more involved in stopping botnets and make the punishments more severe. People who are involved in these illegal activities should pay for the damage they have caused to the computers and should serve at least 10 years in jail.

I think that my computer at home is very safe because I have anti-virus software and also my computer has no problems with it at all. Yes the virus defenitions on my computer are up to date. My computer does have a firewall and a spyware detector. I do not know anybody who has had problems with botnets I think that botnets should be dealt with in any way possible, people that create these botnets should be put in jail for a short amount of time, like 1-5 years behind bars

No anti-virus software is perfect. They all have some things that they cannot block. I think that even if it were possible to have all of the virus softwares in the world on one computer, some things would still find a way through. I believe that the best way to prevent viruses is to not test the limits of the software. If you are careful and don't go on websites that are likely to have viruses or don't open emails from noone with no subject, then your virus software should deal with the rest.

I believe that my computer at home is not very secured, I do have an anti virus program, however it is not up to date. However my computer neither has a firewall nor a program to detect spyware. However my computer has never been attacked, because it is not connected to the internet as yet. However I have a friend whose computer has been attacked, and what he did was that he sent it to get fixed and deleted everything on the computer. Then he installed a Norton anti-virus program. I think that botnets should be stopped in any way or form, even though I think that it might be hard however I do think that there is a way to stop them. I think that people who are involved in those illegal activities should go to jail, or pay a fee for what they did.

I think that bitnets are unbelievable it used to be viruses but botnets are now probably more dominate. I do have a firewall and syware and everything else, but botnets make my firewall sound weak. I have had friends you've exerienced a virus but I've never known anyone who has been attacked by a botnet. I have also experienced a virus, it took quite sometime to fix my computer it was very time consuming.
