Microsoft Bids Billions for Yahoo

Microsoft has announced plans to make a bid to purchase Yahoo. This week’s article looks at the reason for Microsoft’s effort to acquire Yahoo and the implications that this merger would have. Go to the link below and read the article. Write a reflective comment that addresses my questions and shows your understanding of the article.

Microsoft’s bid to take over Yahoo is considered hostile. If you were in Jerry Yang’s position, what would you do? Should Microsoft be allowed to purchase Yahoo? Should the government get involved with antitrust concerns about this merger and other mergers of large companies? If the merger does take place, how do you think it will affect searching and online advertising?

Microsoft suddenly wanting to take over Yahoo would be considered hostile. Yahoo had no warning of this event happening and I'm sure that Jerry Yang was not happy when Microsoft suddenly declared that they would pay $44.6 billion for Yahoo and there is no negotiations. If I were him, I would not stand for that and tell him that no, that is not acceptable. They are demanding that Yahoo just be handed over to them on a silver platter no questions asked.
Yes, I believe that the government should get involved with this because if this happens just once, how many more times will it happen? Everything would be in complete and utter chaos.
If this merge does take place, advertisements for Microsoft would most likely outweigh the advertisements for Yahoo, and that in my opinion would not be fair at all. So, someone should step in and put a stop to this before something terrible happens.

I think its really shocking to see Microsoft take over Yahoo. I don't really get why each search engine company are competing against each other. I don't think that was a wise decision to pay yahoo $44.6 billion dollars but unfortunatly there is nothing yahoo can do about it they can not change the money at all which i think is unfair.

I do believe that the government should do something about this problem. i think they should make this illigel for stealing a company. This is totally unfair to Yahoo and its advertisments. Without yahoo practiclly no one will live. So in my opinion i think its a good idea to leave yahoo alone and to think about what they are doing. Or this will be a big problem.

Microsoft’s bid to take over Yahoo is considered hostile. If I were in Jerry Yang’s position, I wouldn’t let them take over Yahoo. Microsoft is a big company that can almost take over the world, in a way. Why would I, if Jerry Yang, give it to them? Although they are declaring that they’re going to pay $44.6 billion, I would still not think of giving this amazing company to Microsoft! Also, Microsoft shouldn’t be allowed to purchase Yahoo. A big company like Microsoft should just make a company like Yahoo, but they have no right to take Yahoo from Jerry Yang or anyone else.
No, I don’t believe that the government should get involved with antitrust concerns about this merger and other mergers of large companies. The government doesn’t have to do with it because it’s about two companies and these companies don’t really have to do with the government. If this merger does take place, I think, as Shannon said, advertisements for Microsoft would outweigh the advertisements for yahoo. This will turn into a major mess!

I think it's a good idea that Microsoft is buying Yahoo. As anything else, it is just business, and who cares what they are paying or what situation Yahoo is in at the moment.

No, i don't think that the government should get involved. They're just selling a large company, not selling guns or dealing drugs.

I believe that Microsoft sudden urge to buy out Yahoo is very hostile and suspicious. If I was in Jerry Yang position, I would do what is good for the company. I believe that Microsoft should be allowed to purchase Yahoo because more companies merging will make are lives easier, and with Yahoo's search engine and Microsoft's funding ,Yahoo search has the ability to become the Earth's best search engine. I believe that the government should get involved when two large companies merge because the government can track their funding and prevent scamming .I think if the merge takes place the searching and online advertising will become large and more expensive market and the search engine will become larger and better.

Wooksoon //// If I were in Jerry Yang’s position, I would accept Microsoft’s suggestion. But there is a rule for accepting it. If Microsoft takes x% of Yahoo, I will take x% of Microsoft. So, each company doesn’t need to pay money each other. Although there is no payment, I will suggest sharing our idea and technology. It will be good idea for each other. For Microsoft, they don’t need to pay and can beat up Google. For Yahoo, they can grow up and don’t worry about merging.
Yes, I think Microsoft should purchase Yahoo. Even though they are big companies, they should be trade because company itself is sort of item, like products. So, if Microsoft paid money to Yahoo, and Yahoo agreed to merge, they can be merged.
I don’t think government need to involve in this kind of problems. As we see the article, if the government got involved, it will take so many times to be merged.
I think if the merger takes place, it will affect a lot. If there are Microsoft + Yahoo VS Google, they will show many good ideas, and it will affect consumer’s welfare to get good information.

Microsoft’s offer to buy Yahoo is considered hostile. If I were in Jerry Yang’s position, I would let them take over Yahoo. Microsoft is a really big company and one of the richest. I don't know why Jerry Yang would not sell his company for $44.6 billion dollars. It would be reasonable for a big company like Microsoft to buy a company like Yahoo. After all they do have the money.

I believe that Microsoft is trying to expand and wants to develop, because anyone who would put this amount of money is aiming for something big and something that would change the world to me I think what Microsoft is doing is very smart and they’re thinking wisely of their money and they know where to spend it. In the end it all comes to the chief executive Jerry Yang and other important people in the business. What Mr. Yang is doing is also smart because if he says no to Microsoft’s offer they might raise the payment even though it’s a lot of money. I don’t believe that the government should interfere with this at all because this is how companies work and most of them get their money like that. Plus if the government interferes then they might have some problems.

If I were in Jerry Yang's position then i would take the deal because it would overcome google's already rising empire. Microsoft should be able to buy yahoo unless there is some other complication we don't know of. The government Shouldn't get involved unless one of the companies wants it to. It will affect the searching and online advertising a lot because Microsoft started the whole pc world.
