Facebook: Checking Out Isn’t Easy

You have probably seen Facebook, the social networking site. You may even have a profile there. Have you thought about what happens when you want to delete your profile? This week’s article discusses the experiences that some people have had when they tried to delete their accounts. Go to the links below and read the articles. They have similar, but slightly different information. Write a reflective comment that addresses my questions and expresses your opinion about the topic.

Do you know anyone who tried to delete their Facebook account and experienced the “bug” in the system? Was the office manager’s reaction appropriate? Should Facebook create a one-step "delete account" button, instead of using the form that they now have? Comment on Facebook’s use of Beacon. Should people have privacy concerns about using Facebook?

Yes, I do have some friend that had a conflict with the "bug”. I believe that the office manager's reaction was acceptable because the Facebook team sent him a confirmation that his account was deleted. I believe it would be better for the user and easier for the administration of Face book to add a "delete account" button. I believe that beacon's advertising is an invasion of privacy. Yes, people should have privacy concerns on a website that has your picture and other information.

No, I don’t know anyone who experienced the bug in the system. But I know some people who deleted their Facebook accounts and didn’t tell me what happened. No, I don’t think the office manager’s reaction was appropriate because I having this bug around isn’t very good. I think he should be more concerned about what’s going on in facebook when people delete their accounts. Yes, I think they should do a one-step “delete account” button so people make sure that all their information has been deleted and their whole facebook account deleted not just the information. Well, I think it depends on what the problem is.

When someone I know deleted their Facebook account, they never experienced any bugs or difficulties doing so. They just deleted their account and then it was gone. However when the office manager heard that his account was fully erased, but then saw that it wasn't, his reaction was fully acceptable.
The idea of them using Beacon seems totally intrusive and kind of stalker-like. Why would they personally hunt you down on other websites just to see what you've been up to. It's really just plain wrong and a good thing that they stopped. Also, they should just get a one-step delete your account because that would make everything so much easier.
Lastly, a person should always have privacy concerns when using something like Facebook, but if someone is foolish enough to put out something that they don't want the whole world to see, then that's theior fault, and no one else's.

I tried to delete my Facebook account in the summer, but unfortunately, I experienced the “bug” in the system. My parents didn’t want me to have Facebook so I deleted it. After three weeks, I went onto Google and typed my name for an awkward reason and out came my name with my picture on the first page. I believe that the office manager’s reaction was appropriate because, in a way, Facebook lied to him. Facebook should create a one-step “delete account” button, instead of using the form that they now have because it’s easier and better. The idea of using beacon doesn’t seem like a good idea. As Shannon said, it’s like getting stalked! It’s a good thing that they stopped using Beacon because it concerns the privacy of people. That was actually the first reason why my parents made me delete my Facebook account.
Also, with a site like Facebook, where everyone uses around the world, it’s not a good idea to not have privacy. What if someone put a picture of you and wrote all of these bad things? Pretty much, there’s nothing that you can do.

To tell you the truth I have never met someone or known someone that wanted to delete their Facebook account and me as a member I wouldn’t want to delete my account unless I had to, due to my own problems. Because I have never known someone who wanted to delete their account I haven’t had the experience to see what the office manager’s reaction was. Yes I do believe that they should create a one step "delete account" because it would make it easier for the people who do want to delete their account, because it would be a one step procedure. To me I don’t believe that there should be privacy concerns because your profiles privacy is all on you, you choose if you want people to see your profile or not to see your profile. If you are a parent who thinks that Facebook is bad for your child then don’t allow them to have one in the first place. For Beacon I think what they did was smart because now there is more safety on your account.

Wooksoon/// No, actually, I have never used the Facebook. So, I didn't hear that problems in Facebook. I think the manager's reation is not quite good. If there is a problem, she must apologize to the users. But, she makes a lame excuse. However I think that deleting an account easily is a stupid idea, because someone could accidentally delete it. That is why I think it is better to make it more simple. The Beacon system has to be removed. For just one computer system, all information of a person is traced and then relayed to others. I don't feel good when something or somebody keep track on me on my internet surfing and even relay it to others.

Unfortunately I don't know anyone who had this type of problem on his or her facebook but I think facebook should be seewed. people's privacy is being violated because facebook can't make an easy outs switch. Would you really want all the information on your facebook getting out to everyone because facebook couldn't delete your account properly. scrou that!!

The new law does not concern me, i am American not Japanese. I don't agree with either. Because it doesn't concern me. I would strike back with an army of clones. I don't keep up with the news and so I don't care about anything except myself and friends.

I don't have any friends who have ever had a bug when trying to delete their account. The officer manager's reaction was appropriate because he had his own right to not let anyone else see his website. Well, I don't use facebook so I don't really care, but I have tried creating an account and the email confirmation button hasn't worked. Beacon should not be used because it is an evasion of privacy. People should be concerned about their privacy because it's in everyone nature to do something that is not right to do.
