Free Music – when is it legal and when is it not?

Most people enjoy listening to music. Most people like things that are free. Free music is not always legal, though. This week our article looks at some of the options for free music and helps us identify the difference between legal sources and illegal ones. Go to the link below and read the article. Write a reflective comment that shows you have read the article, expresses your views, and addresses my questions.

Have you ever shared music with someone else, either giving or receiving songs? Did you feel that it was legal? What forms of sharing music do you think should fit the fair use concept? What forms of sharing should be considered illegal? Go to one of the legitimate free sources of music mentioned in the article. What is your opinion of the website and the free music? What would you say or do if you were sued for having illegal copies of music?

I always download music from Limewire, usually I would share it with my friends or cousins and sometimes it would be for my personal use. I always thought about if it was legal or not, but it did not seem illegal to me at all. Because my opinion of it is that when you buy a music CD it is yours and you can do whatever you want with it. In this article apparently sharing or downloading music is illegal, in any form or way.

Creative Commons is one of the legal sources to download from because a copyright holder can choose which rights to share. I think this is a fair choice for copyright holders, if they worked on a project and did not want to share it commercially or share it without a license. If I were sued for having illegal copies of music, I would explain that where I bought the music it didn’t say not to share.

I always download music from Limewire, it is a free way to download music, yet I still don't think that it is the right thing to do. I know it is illegal but I am not going to go out and make an account on Itunes and then put in my credit card number. I think that it is unfair to the artists because they don't make money if people find a way to download music for free. Sometimes if there is an artist that i like a lot i go out and buy their CD because i know that all of their songs are good.

I have never shared music with someone else, either giving or recieving songs. I felt that it was legal. I think that if you like a song and your freinds like it I think that you should be able to share the song like with videos from the internet.

I always downloaded music from limewire or in internet. However I never thought that was legal or not. Also I think uploading musics on a internet in not illegal, because they are just sharing their musics that they bought with people. Not only that it would be almost impossible to catch people that shares uploads musics to the internet.
Many people don't buy CD because they can get it from internet and they might not like a song in the CD or if you want to listen to only one song, you can't really buy the whole CD to listen that one song.

I think that limewire is bad for business' such as itunes or record companies. Although people do enjoy to download free music but their really is no point to making a website with free music the creator can not earn any money as it seems. I think that the idea of free music is good but to solve this prolem of illegal song sharing between people should be solved by paying a monthly fee of so many dollars, euros, pounds, etc.

I also download music from Limewire and I have shared it with my friends.I didn't feel it was legal but there are no laws against it in Jordan. I think only sharing music should in any form should be legal except when you are making a profit from giving people your music from your computer. That should be illegal because it's not fair to make a profit from somebody's work. I agree with most of the websites. If I were in America I would probably not be caught with illegal music. I wouldn't have illegal music on my computer or iPod because I wouldn't want to get sued. If I somehow ended up being sued I wouldn't be able to do anything about it.

I also use LimeWire to download songs, but i just use it for personal use. When you search LimeWire in google to see if its free or not it does say its free but as in the program is free not the songs. I've heard of so many people that have gotten sued for so much money from downloading music illegally. If I was an artist I wouldn't want my music up on the internet for free because I would have worked very hard and put so much effort into making those songs. Therefore I can see where the artist's are coming from.

Yes, I have received songs from Lime wire. At the time I didn’t know it was illegal. Limewire it self is legal, but sharing songs on the other hand is illegal. If I was an artist I would be mad, because I wouldn’t get credit for what I worked hard for.

I am proud to say that I have never infringed any music copyright by downloading from the internet. I have on occasion burned or recieved burned CDs. Considering that I wasn't marketing the burned CDs, I felt perfectly legal. As long as you don't get money from stolen music by selling it, I think it's perfectly legal. After visiting Limewire.com, I think that having to download it would probably limit the number of music pirates. If I ever had to defend myself for using pirated music, I would defend myself by saying that it was the fault of the free music provider, because they made it possible to download the music in the first place. As for myself, I'd rather support the artists making the music and go pay the money for the CD at the store, like I usually do. It's better that way.

This topic is an important one for me since fre musc is the only way I can listen to music. My music taste is different from others so this"Free song per week" will not be of any use since they will most probily be something I don't like. You can't have ilegal music since music is the beauty of the ear. In countries like England they have forbin Limewire and Ares since all the major music shops are begining to steep lower.

I have always been downloading songs from the internet, and sending and receiving them from my friends. However I have always thought that the singers are stupid for letting people put their songs on the internet, which could be downloaded by anyone in the world. I wondered how singers get money if nobody buys their CDs, on the other hand I thought that their must be some kind of an agreement between singers, and the companies who put their music on the internet.
When I found out that people could get arrested if they put songs on the internet without buying them. I decided not to get any song from a website that is not well known like “limewire”, or Apple’s Itunes service. That’s because I had learned that they only download songs that they had bought, and they also have to pay the singers a specific amount of money for letting them put their songs on the internet.
I hope that all of us start getting songs in a legal way, not by downloading them from the internet, which could actually get someone arrested if he/ she had used it for something other than their personal use.

I use Limewire to download all of my music and videos for my Zune and my computer itself. I just open it up, search what I want, click "download", and don't think about it. I know it is illegal, but I also know that they aren't going to bust you for it here. I think that everyone who has music or video on there makes enough money through actually selling albums and doing concerts that people just downloading it won't make a difference. If someone gets really into someone's music, they may end up spending lots of money to go to the concert.
