Most people enjoy listening to some form of music. Music companies are in business to get people to listen to their music and to make money. This week’s article is about some of the innovations that companies are using to get you to pay attention to them. Go to the link below and read the article. Then, write a reflective comment that expresses your views and addresses some of my questions.
The article gives some reasons why music is appropriate for online innovations. Do you fit the profile that the author gives for people your age? Have you heard of any of the companies that are described? Have you experienced any of their innovative ideas? See if you can find more about one of the companies mentioned and their marketing. Is it something that you would tell your friends about? What other innovative ideas would you like to see music companies try in marketing their music?

This article was kind of confusing for me. But i think i know what they are trying to say. I thzink i fit the profile that the author gave kids our age. I download a lot of music online from limewire but never from somewhere else. The reason why is because limewire is free. They try to make you pay for limewire PRO but you can download that from limewire haha. I havent heard of any of the companies that are described there, they are new to me.
I think that music companies should just let people download the music for free anyway. Music makes most people happy and then they would be happy because they are making us happy. people with slow internet or no computer can still buy cds. They could still make money a different way. I wouldnt tell my friends about the companies because who cares. Everybody uses limewire for their music.
I think the music business online is a good way to get money, or whatever u need as an exchange. What I thought about the Red91, it is doing a great job attracting people, like they said "the album "Transmission 14" by the Supervinyls was downloaded 2,589 times." While the chief executive was stunned with the results, he thought of licensing or marketing the music.
This article was about how; young people are downloading music from the internet for return like nothing, companies like Napster, Red91. As the test set up in June, July, with almost 3000 downloads for n0othing in return would be stupid! That’s why companies are trying to license it market the music. And others sell it by sending it through email.
I really don’t think that I entirely fit the profile the author has given for our age, because I really don’t believe that music is the language of the youth. When I read about the companies, I had never heard of any of them. I have never experienced any of the companies’ ideas, and the only downloading I have ever done, is the free “illegal” downloading from the internet. When I went on the web and put in ShoZu and Red91, I received millions of hits. When searching SellaBand and EListeningPost the number of hits dropped to the thousands. When opening up their websites, there goals were just as mentioned in the article, only using more persuasive words to market their product. When it comes to telling a friend about it, I definitely would do so. If a friend of mine doesn’t like to use iTunes, but dislikes downloading songs for free, these sites are a convenient solution. Another reason I would tell a friend is because I know a few people who are excellent at playing their instrument of choice, and if they decided to go big-time with their music, some of these sites can easily provide them with something to start from. An idea that I’d like the music industry to try is that perhaps they should make the price for a song less, and the process of which to buy a song easier. The reason is that while searching the sites, I realized it was very hard to locate the link of which you could purchase songs from and the sites were also obsessed with your personal details.
My opinion on all of this is that overall it’s a very good idea. These sites will give people an opportunity to produce and receive money from their music and at the same time be able to know whether people are enjoying their music or not. Personally, I am sick of iTunes, and I would like to see another site that offers you the same media elements for purchase, but with better pricing and less advertisements.
I got some part of the article and some parts I didn’t get. I think that downloading music from the internet for free is not fair. On my computer I have two programs where you can download movies and music for free. One of then is Lime Wire, Lime Wire is a program where it searches some files in your computer and makes it accessible to any one on Lime Wire. It even puts your programs and documents so anyone can open it. Luckily there is way to stop this program, Lime Wire, to search your computer. But for people who don’t know this people can access almost anything that is on your computer. This is why think Lime Wire is not only made for free music but for other people to access your files. Then I have this other program which I personally like better, it is called Ares. I’m not sure if this program does the something Lime Wire does, but I can find music that I never found in Lime Wire. Well we all know that we all download music from the internet without paying a fee or anything like that to the artist of the song. I think that we should try not downloading music from the internet for free unless it is really necessary. For example in Jordan buying an original CD is twice as what I pay in the states. And itunes, an online music store, is way too expensive. For example I have like about 1000 songs on my ipod that would mean I would have had to pay 1000 dollars. That I think is way too expensive. So I would have to say that Jordan is special and we should be allowed to download free music.
I believe that music is the language for some of the youth. For example most of the people that I know that listen to heavy metal rock are always wearing dark clothing and some of then act kind of strange. Then people that listen to rap where baggy clothing. There are many more types of music and people that sort of respond to music by dressing up that way. But me I don’t really fit me I listen to many types of music and I don’t necessarily dress up like the artist or something like that. I also never heard of any of the companies listed on the article. When I searched one of those companies on Google many hits appeared and just as I clicked I could notice that this was a well visited site. I never experienced any of the innovation ideas at least I don’t think so. Well what I would like to see in companies innovations are maybe something original something that people never heard or seen before something that is easy to remember.

I believe this article was a little challenging and not for our reading level .I think i know what they are saying by them giving out free music the lose profit and is suicide. I download music online too, on limewire. I use it because it is free and you don't lose money. I believe music should be free. I believe this because its for pleasure not a business. If it is the singers can make money off of concerts etc. I also believe that I have no clue what the companies they name in the article are. Also most people I know download Limewire or Bearshare or Kaza, more proof that people want their music free.
I believe I am in the category the author gives kids our age. Something I would tell my friends about is something free or something that you can get for a cheap rate, I wouldn't tell my friends or people companies who charge alot of money, like i-tunes. You can download it free or download a album for $10-20. You also save alot of money, it might be safer but I guess the majority of the world like free. Also if we were to buy from I-tunes we can't, Jordan isn't one of the listen companies where you can buy songs, this also encourages illegal music.
In my opinion, these sites are a new and interesting way to deal with music on the internet! I think it's a pretty smart way, which allows people all over the world to publish their music, and get it out to the world! On the other hand, people have to pay money to get the songs. People always prefer free downloads, like LimeWire or Bearshare. I think if they make it at a low price people from all over the world would use those sites a lot, and they will get tons of money.
I think the profile the author gives us, as teenagers is true; music is the new language of youth. If we make some statistics we will definitely find that everyone these days listen to music especially us teenagers. I have never heard of the companies that are mentioned in this article and I've never experienced any of their innovative ideas either. I searched for the company Red91, and I got thousands of results. It's UK's first digital-only record company and it was created in 2004. Their aim is to spread peoples' music to the world and make them accessible to other people from around the world. I think music companies are doing a great job, I mean you have many different options and you just have to choose from them.
The profile the author gives for people our age, I fall in between I think. I do think that music can affect a person in different ways. Music, sometimes for me, in certain situations, I would have real need of it; either when I'm sad or happy, so I do think it’s the language of youth. But When I read about the companies, I never heard of any of them, Red91, ShoZu or SellaBand. I have never experienced any of the companies’ ideas, the only experience I have is downloading music from the internet. Kids our age "are more likely to be online media consumers, more likely to want something for nothing and more likely to try things that haven't been done before" so the companies ideas are pretty good, I think. But when I first thought about it I also thought it would be "commercial suicide", but since they have companies marketing or licensing their music, its better business.
I found out more about ShoZu, and I learned what they do much better. I got thousands of results. I found out that they are the UK's first digital-only record company and it was created in 2004. They spread peoples' music to the world and make them accessible to anyone. They allow you to have the easiest way to upload videos and photos from your phone to web sites, blogs, and email addresses. You can also have your video or photo on the web quickly! You can add a description and tags from your phone before or after uploading, and edit these at any time. This would be something I would tell my friends about, because mostly everyone I know would be interested in these companies' fresh ideas. I think I would like it if some companies tried to maybe think of ideas that would actually include something free for us, not like LimeWire but the same concept. But the companies get to make something in return from other companies or something. Like making deals with another company asking you to advertise something they invented or made, in that free thing that were getting access to, so that way both us and the companies are happy; one company gets money by advertising another companies inventions and we get something free.
I found this article very interesting and stirring. It talked about the music business in detail, explaining their tricks to lour young children to buy their products. Moreover, it explains the points of view for an average student and how they are lured in to products by advertisements. It also talks about our present day liking toward programs that allow free music and videos to be downloaded. It specifically talks about You Tube and how students our age use it to share videos and pictures. Furthermore, it shows our development of the music business, talking about the ShoZu website. This website is a combination of a music downloader and a GPS for fans. It allows the fans to track down their favorite bands or individual singers. In addition to that, it provides backstage and concert videos. One interesting experiment, written about in the article, shows how many people are looking to downloadable free songs. The experiment consisted of a file named Red91 being posted on a website, to be downloaded for free. During the five week trial, over 2,589 copies were downloaded.
Reading through the article, I could not imagine myself having a personality similar to the student personalities written in the article. As an average student, I do download songs from the internet and I do perform research on the internet. But, I would never look at sites that follow bands or singers. I believe those sites are for people obsessed with music. The question that revolves in my mind is, “Why do we need to know about a singer’s personal life?” Similar to most of my other colleagues, I have opened many of the websites written about in the article. Today, You Tube is used widely for sharing videos and pictures. This website allows you to watch reruns of sport matches, allows you to see videos that are rare, allows you to share pictures, and is used as a site to post personal ideas about politics and other important subjects. Moreover, it can also be an educational site. Based on experience, it is a great way to take musical lessons. Many musicians have posted videos, showing others how to perform tricks on musical instruments. Some videos even teach others about notes. Another website that I have visited is iTunes. This site is created by the Apple company. This website is visited by thousands every day and is a source for many things. It is used for downloading the iTunes package and for a fee, can allow you to download music. Furthermore, it updates the people about the new inventions the Apple industry has created.
Today, I do not visit any website, purposely, without seeing an advertisement of it. iTunes, Google, and other companies have posted videos as advertisements on other websites. This is one way they can lure a person in to their website. Another idea, the music industry has brought up, is the usage of famous actors to compliment about the company. For example, iTunes has used the band U2 to talk about the importance of iTunes in present day life. Presently, iTunes makes a large amount of money every day, by selling music. But, because of new technology, the amount of many is decreasing dramatically. There are new programs that are used to share music, picture, and video files. These programs, such as Bear Share, can be used to download free songs. As a result, iTunes is gaining a small profit.
I believe that the music industries have taken advertisement to a new level by using famous actors, eye catching videos, and other things. In my opinion, I do not want advertisement to increase more for music industry. There are already enough advertisements posted. Looking at the past, I can not imagine how we evolved from normal CDs to downloading songs of the World Wide Web.
This was a really hard article, I understood that the author was talking about music and how kids our age probably use it the most. I would probably have to agree with this author, Because everytime I'm with my friends we have music playing whether its from a computer or a phone.
I think that once a kid our age finds a good music dowloading program that sutes him, he doesn't like to change. For Example I only like to use limewire, because itunes for me is a lot more complicated and limewire is free.
I think that everyday a kid with a computer that is our age listens to at least one song. It's like a habit. I know some people who are never online without listning to music. It's jsut a habit that is almost impossible to change.
For me personally, I definitely don’t believe that the profile the author gives for people my age fits me at all. I am not a big music fan, even though I do have an iPod and some music on my phone. When the article described the companies and what they did, I noticed that I had not heard about ANY of them before. When I just saw their names, I right away assumed that they were not companies that were very famous. But after researching about them online, I noticed that millions of people actually download and listen to songs from these companies. It actually surprised me that ShoZu and Red91 had millions of hits, and SellaBand and EListeningPost had thousands. I was actually expecting both the numbers to be in the hundreds. I have not really experience any of their ideas, because I usually just download free songs from the internet. When I was researching about these companies, I found out that they did not really explain a lot more than what was said in the article. But they were more descriptive and more "demanding" about using their products. Also, it showed you the types of music they have, and some even have a profile about how their company came to be!
To be honest this is not something I would tell me friends about because of various reasons. First of all, most of them wouldn’t like the idea that you have to pay in order to get music. Secondly, they would just want an easy way to download music with lime wire or bear shear, instead of going to all these sites and searching them all up. They usually like the easy way out!! I think that the companies should have free songs to download, in order to make people use their products. Even though I do understand that they need to be making profit out of their companies. Also, I think that they should expand the variety of music companies for their fans to have a wider selection, not just lime wire and iTunes!
In my opinion, these ideas that the companies have are not really going to work. If people have a choice whether to download music for lots of money, or to download the same music for free, most of them would download for free! If people did not have the choice, then yes, these companies would make lots of money, because people would be forced to pay in order to get their music. Also, I believe that the companies should do a better job advertising! Like I said before, I had never heard of these companies, and maybe if I had sooner, I might have used them instead of lime wire and bear share. It is going to be interesting though, to see whether these companies are going to succeed in the future, and if people are really going to pay to listen to music!!
Music can be an appropriate innovation in almost all cases. If we look at iTunes and the millions or billions they make it is all from music, or how a good sound track can make a movie a lot better. Music can be used in almost every way for any purpose.
I seem to fit the authors' stereo type, people these days laugh at those who "pay" for music. You can download the song from iTunes or just watch the song and video clip with YouTube.
Unlucky for me I have never seen nor heard of any of these innovations. I really wish I could have experienced any of these "innovations". Since what these new ideas seem to make things cheaper for me. Which is always good since the youth doesn't always get a yes when they for their parents credit card.
I would really like someone try to make a site dedicated to criticizing new bands or groups. Leaving it to the professionals doesn't always work. Since we the people are the only reason these artists are venturing to the unknown. If it would work it would mean free music and big opportunities.
