The Office of 2020

It is fun to think about the future and anticipate changes that will come. This week’s article is about the findings of a two-year study that reports major changes coming in the next ten years. Go to the link below and read the article. Write a reflective comment that shows you have read the article, expresses your views, and addresses my questions.

How will you feel about working with multiple generations? The article is from a Canadian newspaper. Do you think that the predictions are applicable in other countries as well? Which of the predictions are you looking forward to the most? Which of the predictions scares you the most? Are there any predictions that you do not believe will happen? What are your predictions for jobs and the workplace in the next ten years?

I don’t really like the idea of working with multiple generations. I think that the predictions are applicable in other countries as well. I am looking forward to the prediction: “The office will be where we say it is” because to me it is better to work from home than in the office for huge periods of time. The prediction that scares me the most is that we will all be working 24/7, whether we like it or not. It scares me because I don’t want to work for such long hours. I do not believe that “Social media will be the community halls of the future” because if I would want to collaborate on a project with someone, I would not use social media to do that. In the next ten years, almost everything will be computerized. People will work from whatever place they’d like and they would accomplish more. Many things would be virtual, for example: companies.

I both feel and think that this question has many different answers. Personally I don’t really see anything objectionable to the notion of having many different generations. But as for over the long run I can see how I might eventually have some sort of beef if you will with some of my older colleagues mostly on the grounds of them being somewhat hesitant to embrace the new realities of the advancing eras. However I think that they could with the proper incentive and with proper motivation be persuaded that these new realities really are or were all for the best. I would say that depending on the country in question these predictions might take longer or who knows in some countries these predictions may take less time to come to fruition. I would say that the prediction to which I look forward the most would be that of the decline of one centralized command. That in my opinion would be the donning of an age in its own right. That being that with less centralized command you could have something akin to the old notions taking over. What I mean is that of the notion of power spread and extended to the broadest number of people as possible therefore when you do have reforms in a company that it would be more mutually agreeable by the most individuals. None of these various predictions scare me enough that I would apply to have that one or those ones canceled or put on fold. I believe in my mind that most if not all of these predictions will eventually come to pass. I am as of yet unsure what the future holds for us in the next decade or so but one thing I can be certain of is that many of the old and in fact many of very old certainness will eventually begin to disappear.

I think it would be a great experience to have. Well if you reason with the information and try and relate to your country then yes I would think it would be related to my country. I think, "Teamwork will be a learned skill, not just a nice attitude." would be a good thing because there are people who do not cooperate which are very annoying for most people. “We will make more of what we consume, where we consume it." would scare me the most because it pretty much cays "PICK ME I MAKE BETTER THINGS THAN OTHERS" which will cause cyber and normal conflict. I think that jobs will be more available over the Internet and there will be a lot of fat couch potatoes workers in the next ten years due to enhanced job applications and technology.

I think working with multiple generations might have some benefits becuase you can get different ideas from different generations. I think it would be applicable in other countries as well. The prediction that I'm looking forward the most is the one about where people will be able to choose the places where they would like to work in. The predction that is unwelcoming is that people will have to work 24/7. I don't like this prediction, don't believe it will come true, and don't want it to as well. My prediction for jobs and the workplace is that more jobs would be related to technology and the workplace would be a free environment.

I would feel good about working with multiple generations because I would learn a lot from all of the different generations of people. I would learn a lot about how each generation thinks and how then act. I would benefit from that a lot by appreciating all of the different people from different generations. I think that the predictions are applicable in other countries as well because it could become a universal idea of that would work well because all of the kinds of cultures would benefit from that new idea that came to be. The predictions that I am looking forward to the most are how people would accept this new idea, and how they would use it, and how it would make the user’s life easier. The prediction that scares me the most is how the site would work for 24 hours. The prediction that I think would not happen is that people would all work well together. My prediction for jobs and the workplace in the next ten years is that people would no longer go to work, they would just stay at home and work from there from the cause of this new idea/program!

In my opinion I think that working with multiple generations would be pretty interesting and fun, because I will get to learn about new stuff, also this article was made in Canada, the predictions around the world are different, the point of view. For example in Africa they might predict something less advance than in Japan’s prediction. The prediction that I m looking forward to the most is the ‘Real companies will have virtual locations.’ The prediction that scares me the most and the one I wish will not happen is Management will be pushed down and out, because centralized leadership models will weaken as flexible work formations and management systems create highly decentralized workforces which will make the caste system and family structure also disappear. In the future my prediction for a job would be something that involves computers because from the last 10 years computers has been advancing non-stop.

I do not like the idea of working with people from different generations because every generation had a different mind set. Not everyone is open minded to knew ideas. I think these predictions will be applicable in all countries, some most than others. The prediction that I’m looking most forward to is: “we will make more of what we consume, where we consume it.” Because more and more things to be produced, and its good that we actually consume it, hopefully they will organize it. I don’t like the thought of be linked 24/7 because, here I am doing this blog, I opened my facebook account 3 times. So in other words it is addictive, there will be no leisure time just for myself, a person will be constantly harassed by technology. I don’t believe that the office will be wherever we say it is, there will be now way a person can work 12 hours a day being around his family and not be constantly distracted, I think they should change it to you can access it anytime anywhere. I think jobs and workplaces will be accessed 24/7 by that time, and we will have help from the technology that will develop by that time, but I think the work place will still be an actual office.

What I don't understand: why do they make such a big thing about generations? Of course generations are significant in many ways, but when it comes to working together, why can't you just say that it doesn't matter how people work together. I think the only decision that there is to make is how it is best to work together. I think that the predictions could be comparable to other countries in the world. Though, not everywhere in the world, the same things happen. I don't exactly know what I should be looking forward to from the predictions. At the moment I am actually a small little bit worried that things will get too modern in too quick time. At the moment, I am also actually more concentrated about my school work and not how and where I will have my future office, when I got to work. I think the prediction "We will all be linked to work 24/7, whether we want to be or not." scares me the most. I actually think that we all need a break at times and then it is actually not really profitable when work is around you all the time. One of the predictions I think won't really happen is teamwork. There, of course, are always times where teamwork is important, but then there are times where you just have to do your work by yourself. I actually think that many jobs and workplaces will still be in offices, but everything will be very different and far more modern. To that, I think when having a job, you will be more often around the world.

I don’t really mind working with multiple generations. It’ll be cool since we can take some of history with us to the future. We don’t have to completely destroy everything to advance in the future so mixing generations would probably have a positive outcome, I hope. I think these predictions will apply to all the countries, more though then others. “Teamwork will be a learned skill, not just a nice attitude”. This prediction is definitely something to look forward to. It would be interesting to see how people will work together in a team more than they do today. Teamwork is an important skill, and if in the future it will have to be a learned skill I think people will cooperate more with each other. The prediction that scares me the most because I am pretty sure that there is a very likely chance it will happen. “We will all be linked to work 24/7, whether or not we want to”. There is one prediction that I don’t believe will happen. Although this is a prediction I chose to look forward to, I must say there is a slim chance it will happen due to the psycho nature of human beings. “Teamwork will be a learned skill, not just a nice attitude.” The world can’t work together and never will. There will always be one person that will destroy the teamwork. My prediction is that work will be more virtual than it ever was. Computers and technology will allow us to do the work wherever we are or whatever we are doing. This links to the prediction made in the article of how we will be working 24/7.

I will like working with multiple generations because I enjoy experiencing the diversity of culture from one to the next. There is a lot of knowledge to be gained when working with older or younger people. I think that these predictions are applicable everywhere, they are worldwide principles, at least in advanced countries. “We will make more of what we consume, where we consume it.”
I like this because it says that we will work from home, and who doesn’t want to do that? “We will all be linked to work 24/7, whether we want to be or not.”
This prediction scares me because it means we won’t have time to spend away from work doing leisure activities. I don’t believe the prediction: “Management will be pushed down and out.” It doesn’t make sense to have no leadership, without leadership the world would collapse. I think that the workplace will stay mainly the same, although it could move to more home-based work, and more technology will be integrated, but other than that, it will remain mainly unchanged.

I think working with multiple generations is very interesting and something new. But this article is from Canada newspaper so maybe other countries could have other predictions. I’m looking forward to is the real companies having virtual places. The thing that scares me the most is we will be linked to work 24/7, whether we like it or not. I think all predictions will happen around the same time period. My prediction for jobs and workplace is that majority of people going to offices will work within their own home or at any location. But I still believe that some people will have to be in offices but not as much.

Honestly I guess it wouldn't be bad working with multiple generations, but I think it would be really hard, especially when they all think so differently and work in different ways. I would say the prediction can be applicable to other countries such as, I would say, maybe the states, other countries will be the same as well. The prediction I'm looking forward to the most is the fact that the office will be where we say it is… the prediction that scares me the most would be, that we will be linked to work 24/7; I kind of enjoy my sleep, rest and fun. I don’t think Management will be pushed down; or the fact that people will make what they consume, most people are rather lazy. I don’t really have any predictions for jobs and the workplace in the next ten years, except maybe the fact that A LOT more international work will be done because of the progressing technology, and the fact that we will probably be connected to work 24/7 meaning time differences will not be a problem. -Leen

I feel it would be good to working with multiple generations because there are so many things to learn from each generation. I think that the predictions are applicable to more countries than other but it still might work. The prediction that I’m looking more for to is “Teamwork will be a learned skill, not just a nice attitude”. I like it because, there is a lot of effort put into working with other people who can sometimes be great for me and other people. The prediction that would scare me the most is “we will all be linked to work 24/7, whether we want to be or not." 24/7 was a really scary event and I don’t to have to have anything to do with it. I don’t really think any predictions will happen because the world is always different. Actually I have no prediction for jobs and workplaces in the next ten years because you never know what will happen tomorrow.

It doesn’t bother me that we would be working with multiple generations. I think predictions will differ in different places, because there are different workplace attitudes around the world. The change I like most is the “Teamwork will be a learned skill, not just a nice attitude,” because I think that teamwork is very important in life and work. The prediction that scares me the most is that we will always be connected to work. I think that people need time off work, to have fun with their wives and children, or just to live their lives. I don’t think that the workplace will be were we say it is. I think that workplaces will be in a secure location, in one place. I think that more or less, apart from slight differences, the workplace will stay the same.

I like the idea of working with multiple generations and I think the predictions can be available in many other countries. The perdition I’m looking forward the most is the online work place when one could stay at home and work, this would make the family stronger with the family staying at home. I’m not scared of any of these things the more improvements the better, but I do worry about people becoming lazy and never leave their house. I think all of these will happen, but maybe not that soon.

It will be interesting to work with multiple generations, because it helps to exchange different types of information. I think that these predictions will be applied to the other countries as well, not just in Canada. The most prediction I'm looking forward to is the teamwork prediction. Teamwork will be learned as a skill which will make it easier for the workers to cooperate with each other. The most prediction that scares me is the one that says that we will all be linked to 24/7 weather we like it or not. It scares me because we can predict that we won't have enough free time to do different things. I think that all predictions will happen because of the much advancement that’s happening in our everyday-life. I think that the workplace will stay the same; it's just the way of working that will change.
