Profit From Pirated YouTube Clips

Most of us have seen YouTube videos. There are lots of different kinds of videos available to watch at the YouTube site. Some of the videos that have been posted are pirated, though. This week’s article looks at how some companies are using these pirated videos to make a profit. Go to the link below and read the article. Write a reflective comment that shows you have read the article, expresses your views, and addresses my questions.

Is adding advertising an appropriate solution to the copyright infringement problem in YouTube videos? If you were in charge of one of the companies, how would you deal with the problem? What do you think about Video ID technology and its use? How could Google get more companies to follow the practice of adding advertisements to videos?

I think that pirated videos can reveal secret from within a company that they don't want us to know. As well as that these videos may show us that things we want to see like a leak from a T.V. show that we enjoy or a clip from a video game or how to hack computers and make viruses. these softwere may come at a price and causing these hackers to gain money.

Adding advertising is the appropriate solution to the copyright infringement problem in You Tube videos for many reasons. Firstly, this way many major networks such as CBS are now allowing you tubers to post videos of their shows because they don't like the idea of keeping their fans of their products and being able to engage with their content. The head of digital media at Lionsgate said. "They’re not trying to be evil pirates, and they’re not trying to get revenue from it.” The fact is that the You Tubers don't gain from the advertising revenue generated by their posts. It is split between the media companies and You Tube. It makes it harmless in my view as they are using it for entertainment only. Furthermore, the networks end up getting paid for the ads, making them gain more money. In the end, 90 percent of the copyright claims made using the identification tool remain on the site and converted to advertising inventory. The other 10 percent are either removed from the site or tracked by the content owner. Google could get companies to follow the practice of adding advertisements to videos by in informing them of how much they would stand to gain. Advertisements posted on Google would have some of the most exposure because of the amount of people using Google worldwide. To conclude, I believe they stand to benefit from the advertisement on the net because companies get free advertisement for their product and get paid.

Personally I don’t think that pirated videos on YouTube are a problem I think people just put them up on the website to show people the video. I mean they are not making money off of it so who cares. But the problem would be when people convert the videos they can download them to their computer and later put them on a CD which then gives them the opportunity to sell them. That would be the major problem. The solution to this problem would be that YouTube would not allow people to convert their videos.

I would say that adding advertising to the videos instead of removing them is a good idea. First of all it promotes the company somewhere that millions of people around the world are going to daily. It is a place that people will see it and they can also connect it to the footage that they are watching. If they like the footage it ends up like a trailer for the media companies and their products. Secondly, in my opinion, pirating is only really pirating if the manufacturer is not making any profit. With this venture, however, the manufacturers are making a profit and so I don't really consider it pirated footage any more. Yes, it started off as illegal, pirated film, but now that the media companies are bringing in money with those "illegal" videos, I think it is ok.

I think that the companies are doing the right thing because nobody loses anything. The people uploading the pirated videos aren’t getting hurt, the companies whose videos are being uploaded get to advertise, and both YouTube and the media companies are making a profit. If I was in charge of a media company I would most likely do the same thing. It’s a smart move considering that I wouldn’t have to pay for advertisements in the newspapers, magazines, etc. I think this Video ID idea was a great idea because it helps the media companies identify their videos and take credit and make a profit from their work. Without it this whole idea wouldn’t work and YouTube would face even more lawsuits against them. I also think Google should allow the companies to gain more profit per video and make their Video ID technology stronger and more accurate. This would attract more media companies.

Pirated videos on YouTube may be an advantage and a disadvantage. When people publish pirated trailers on YouTube it can help with getting more people to want to watch the movie, but the company making the movie can lose fans which would try to access the company using internet etc. But i really like the idea that if i would publish a pirated trailer the movie's company would get half the money from the posts because technically the trailer belongs to the movie which belongs to the comapany and YouTube would get the other half. This makes sense becuase YouTube can't block every single user with a pirated Trailer or music video etc.

In the article it talkes about a peroson which uploaded a Rihanna music video which is in the movie Disturbia, this is good for Rihanna becuase it can attract many people to Rihanna which makes them buy her CD but in my opinion its also bad for the movie company because now it's advertising Rihanna through the movie Disturbia. Video ID seems like a very brilliant idea to me, because now the companies are using the video publishers, in other words instead of paying for an AD on YouTube they can take any pirated video which contains anything produced by their company say oh! we claim this video take it from the publisher then they can publish their new game, movie etc. Without even paying a penny.

Personally, I have nothing against people posting videos on Youtube that are not their own. Just the aspect of actually making money off of other peoples' work seems corrupt. But this is the 21st century, and frankly, I don't think it would be a reality to try and completely stop this piracy. It's a losing battle.

I think pirated videos is a great way to make a profit, but it can also leak the wrong information. It also can prevent businesses from making money, because its free or cheaper than a regular dvds. Sometimes these pirated videos can send viruses and shut down your computer.

I think this is a good idea and also a good opportunity for many companies to advertise themselves to millions of people. Also most of the pirated videos don't show the whole thing. Once I tried to watch a movie but, it only showed only one-third of that episode, which made me curious about other two-third and I actually bought that movie. Also I agree with Tomhas, they don't really get a lot of profits out of pirated videos.

I think that pirated videos are bad because people make videos to make money. People cant just take their video and use it as its their video and make money from it. The people who is making the copy will make a lot of money because the will make it cheaper than the original so people would rather buy a copy than a original.
If people had a choice between an original and a copy they would most likely choose the copy rather than the original because its cheaper. There are mostly a copy for every movie so people buy a copy instead .If a copier gets caught copying videos he would have to pay a huge fine for selling pirated copies.

I personally don't think that the pirated videos are a problem on you tube. Really people are just entertaining themselves and others by recoding what they did. The only real problem is that if some people decide to download the clip on to a disc and sell it for money.

Aren't pirated videos illegal,I think. Pirated videos do have secrets behind them either because its illegal or that they want only specifect people to see them. Some of the pirated videos come of of the t.v because the t.v might have cut of the video the pirated videos show it.The only problem with pirated videos are that there illegal and they might carry viruses.
