You have seen and probably experienced Wi-Fi in different locations: coffee shops, airports, etc. This week’s article looks at an innovative use of Wi-Fi that a school is trying. Go to the link below and read the article. Write a reflective comment that shows you have read the article, expresses your views, and addresses my questions.
How would you feel about converting the school’s buses to Internet buses? What would be the advantages? What problems would it create? Would it be fair? It would cost the school extra money to do this and students without laptops would not benefit. What about charging extra for people who use their laptops to surf on the bus? Would having Internet access on the buses make a difference in behavior? How much more homework would get done if we had this benefit?

I would be very happy if the school’s buses were converted into Internet buses. Some advantages are: behavioral problems would disappear, the bus ride would turn into a study hall, and “learning extends beyond classroom walls”. Also, between games, coaches and players can turn a bus into a Wi-Fi café, where they can finish all their work. Some problems or disadvantages that it might create are: students would start to play games instead of doing their homework, depending on the number of buses in the school, the Internet service can be very expensive, and students who do not have laptops cannot use their time to work. It is, however, fair for everyone. I do not think it would be fair to charge extra for people who use their laptops to surf on the bus. Having Internet access on the buses does make a difference in behavior. Students would no longer shout, jump, tease each other, and punch the seats. Things would be much quieter, and the students would be able to accomplish a lot. If we had this benefit I would get at least half my homework done, and I wouldn’t feel stressed at times when I have a lot of homework because I would know that I will have plenty of time to finish it.
I think converting the school’s buses to Internet buses is a brilliant idea. The advantages would be that students could use the time on the bus to complete homework or their projects. Another benefit would be that students could use the time on the buses as their leisure time like checking their mails from friends and playing games. The problems would be that students would use this benefit to do other things besides school work. It certainly would not be fair for the students without laptops because they do not get any merits from it, however, students with laptops can benefit from them. Charging for the people who surf the internet on the bus seems to be a fair policy. Having internet on the bus could make the kids become quieter, however, buses can become loud because students may be playing games and that could make a lot of noise. If we had this benefit, the amount of time that kids spend on their work at home would be reduced.
I think that it is a great use of time and money to put wi-fi on the buses. Advantages would be that kids could do some of their homework on the bus and not consume so much time at home. It also decreases the number of accidents on the bus because the kids aren’t as jump and pushy. I don’t think it would create any problems. I think it would be fair, and I don’t see why it wouldn’t. It might cost but the results would be worth it, and students without laptops might not benefit, but it wouldn’t affect them negatively either. I don’t think that the school should charge extra, but they should put a safeguard on the wi-fi stopping kids from surfing the web. Yes, having Internet on the bus would create a difference in behavior, because kids would be too preoccupied by their computers to run around and behave inappropriate. A lot more homework would be done, because kids would want to get it done on the bus, and then do more.
I would feel great about converting the school’s buses to Internet buses because I would be able to access the internet, and I would be able to do a lot of work on the bus such as school work, homework, and I could even entertain myself by playing games. He advantages are that I would be able to accomplish a lot like the things that I have mentioned. The problems that it creates is that it could distract the children, and the bus driver. Also, they could go to bad sites that they should not be on. I think it would be fair. I think it would be fair for the school to charge extra for people who use their laptops to surf on the bus. Yes having internet on the bus does make a difference in their behavior because they would be distracted, and that could cause some bad behavior. I would get done with most of my homework done on the bus. But the teachers would probably give more homework, even though it would not be fair because Some people don’t have laptops to use on the bus.

How would you feel about converting the school’s buses to Internet buses?
Honestly, if the Internet bus comes to our school I’d be jumping in joy. If our school really converts all the bus into an Internet bus, then the parking area would turn into my new hanging out area, even though I don’t ride the bus to school. Some of the advantages are: I can be able to work, listen to music, and be able to surf the Internet instead of wasting my precious lunchtime talking. There are also some disadvantages with this new Internet system, instead of working there will be kids who go to illegal sites or wasting bandwidth instead of working and this wont be fair for the kids who only use the Internet for work, also kids who don’t have laptops would not benefit from this, so the way to solve this problem is to raise the cost of the bus, about $25 more dollars for the internet bus and normal price for the normal bus. According to the article, yes it would. Kids would pay more attention to their laptops working than to push and punch each others. Also the percentage of homework being done will rise also because kids would rather do their homework than wasting their time on the bus.
Generally, I think the idea of converting a regular yellow metal box into a Internet bus is a superb idea! Although, I see it with advantages and disadvantages. Advantages are that in the busses, as described in the article, it is much calmer and everybody is quiet. This can also be helpful for the bus driver to concentrate. Also, students can do their remaining homework or have some fun with online games or other things that use a laptop and the Internet. Disadvantages are that everybody is concentrated on the screens and nobody relaxes, even though it might look like it. Especially after a hard day, I see the bus ride as the perfect opportunity to just relax and stare out of the window and dreaming. The school pays for this service and the students use it. It depends if the contract is a flatrate or just a fixed monthly price. If it is a flatrate, the school is kind of busted because there would be a very high load of costs. If it is just a fixed monthly price with unlimited bandwidth it would be far better and the school would profit a lot from it. I don't think students should be charged for using the service on busses. They don't have to pay for using the Internet in school so why on the bus? I think the rate of completed homework would go up a lot with the Internet service on the bus. Students can do last research or finish an essay during the trip.
I would love to have Internet buses at the school. Some advantages would be that an extra session for studying and working, as well as helping get rid of behavior problems, because kids with computers would want to take good care of them. Some problems might be that kids would not do their work, and instead would play games or look at inappropriate things, which would start commotion, and defeat the purpose of an Internet bus. Also, the poor will feel left out, and will feel very inferior, which might start a rift in the school community. For this reason, it might not be fair. Charging extra for people who use their laptops on the bus would probably be fair. Homework and behavior would both go up if we had Internet buses, because more time equals more homework, and things to occupy students will increase behavior.
well i dont take the bus, but if i did i guess it would be a good idea to convert them into internet buses. some of the advantages would be that well you could get some homework done,or finish some you havnt finished, time in the bus could be use more wisely because the time in the bus is just really a waste of time, so if you could get some work done it would be better,we wouldnt be so bored as well.the disadvantage could be that well first it would be really expensive andcost the school more and that well you would need a laptop and no everyone has one, also what about the little kids who ride the bus? it might just get chaotic, like if people start putting their itunes etc...charging extra for people who surf wouldnt be fair because either they make it avalaible for everyone or they just dont, anyways not sure anyone would actually people might think its just not worth it, do your work at on or at school but were not going to waste our money for you to check facebook or play somegameon a 15-20 min bus ride.it might make a difference in behavior at the beggining people might be busy with their laptops and you know but soonit will turn out that people go for fun on some website, have a laugh soon it will just get out of control.im not so sure people would really use this time for homework except once in a while or in the morning to get something they didnt do but otherwise it would just not to get bored just surfing.
I think converting the school’s buses to Internet buses is a brilliant idea and I would definitely enjoy it. The advantages as the article has mentioned, it is keeping all students busy and so there aren’t as many problems on the bus. Also it’s a great way to get a head start on homework you may not have completed- just like study hall as the article has also mentioned. The disadvantages may occur after a while of the use of the Internet bus. Students may use the internet against school rules or use it as a way to harass or bully other students on the bus. Yes I do think it would be fair for everyone if it is used in the proper way. There are students who don’t own laptops and so they may lose the benefit and it would not be fair to have them pay the extra cost. I believe it should only be charged for people who do use their laptops to surf on the bus. Yes I do think having an Internet access on the buses make a difference in behavior. Students, as I’ve said before, are busy with their own thing, whether they are playing PC games or actually using their time wisely with school they are still busy with something preventing the students to amuse themselves with other students. (Bullying, harassment, ect.) I think many students would get a lot of homework done with this benefit but there would be the possibility of plagiarism if the students do their homework together.

I think it is a really cool idea to convert the school’s buses to Internet buses because it allows kids to do work if they needed the Internet and also it makes their bus rides fun if it’s a long trip. We students could go on just for fun to take away some time from the long trip. The advantage that I think is that students could actually get things done on the buss. Students always have those days where they just couldn’t do a specific assignment, having the internet on the way to school can solve that especially if they needed to send something electronically. The problem I think it would create contradicts the advantage; I think students will abuse the privilege to have Internet on the way to school. I know that many won’t bother to do work. I think it is fair to all students if they have a laptop or not. It’s their choice on weather to a laptop or not. Even though it costs a lot more for the school it still would be fair. I don’t think its is fair to charge students to use the internet because if it’s too high they won’t bother to bring money therefore, this program would be put to waist and the school would be wasting a lot of money for nothing. Having Internet on the bus will make a huge difference in the behavior of students because they are occupied doing something else. I think this benefit will allow a lot of work to be done however; it is up to the student to use this Internet wisely and efficiently.
I feel the advantages would be great because I have found myself working or studying on the bus on the way to school. Advantages would be that students could work on home work or even read the text their going to learn about in their classes that they have that day. The problems that would be created would be that people might use the internet for games, videos, ect.., but these problems can be easily passed by using passwords to get into the internet so that the sites can be traced. I think it would not be fair if someone dose not have enough money to buy a laptop or a school dose not have the budget but just because something is not fair dose not mean that the schools and students that can should not have them. Charging students extra to surf the web on the bus is not a bad idea because the students that would not use the internet for school would not wont to pay this extra fee, also these public schools that would have these get their money from the state so its not like the parents are paying allot to send their kid to a school and have a bunch of other fees. The behavior and how much work would get done all relies on the individual that is their, but I think the changes would be for the better.
If our school was to turn our buses to internet buses, I'm pretty sure everyone at the school would be overjoyed with the news; it would be a great use of money. The advantages would be more time to work on homework, less behavior problems, just like the article said a bus ride would easily be turned into another study hall. Disadvantages would be probably be ill use of the internet, such as visiting sites that are not allowed, or used to bother other students who may also be working on their laptops. Honestly, I think it would be fair because it would be a great use of the school's money, most students have laptops, and ACS has school laptops so why not just have them be available on the buses as well? Charging extra wouldn't be very accurate, because the school tuition is already extremely high and if the school is willing to provide the service they shouldn't make us pay. Behavior would definitely be better; nobody would have the time to harass anyone else. As for homework, it would be easier to get it done, and it would definitely give the student more of a reason to finish their homework on the bus instead of at home.

I think converting school’s buses to Internet buses would great. There can me both advantages and problems. The advantage of the internet buses can lead to students studying on the bus and its for learning purpose but the problem is that students can start taking advantage of the privilege of having internet on the school bus and using it in a inappropriate way. Well I believe if the internet use is used correctly and only for internet purposes then they shouldn’t be charged but if they don’t use the internet for school purpose then that when they should get charged but overall if I was to choose I think the internet should be free. It can make a difference in behavior because students would be busy using the internet but what happens to the people who don’t have laptops what would they be doing? I think some homework can be done during this benefit if students use the internet buses correctly then they will be able to complete some homework assignments before they get home.
I would feel glad and happy about converting the school’s buses to Internet buses. The advantages would be that it turns into another study hall, there would be less behavior problems, and there would be more time for students to work on homework the problems it would create is that student who do not have laptops cannot use their time to work, its extra money and the internet service may be very expensive.
Students will sometimes start to play games instead of doing their homework.
Yes, it would be fair to use the internet buses, it will cost the school extra money to do this but it's worth it because it's for learning and time managing, using your time well. And majority of the people have laptops so it won't matter.
It would be fair if they only charge extra for people who are using the internet on the bus. Yes. Having Internet access on the buses make a difference in behavior, student would be more quite busy doing their homework, doing any other things, it's just he mater of using your time wisely. I would get most of my homework done if we had this benefit, having more time to spend on homework would be always a good chance for students to work.

I think that it’s a good idea to convert school buses to Internet buses so student has something to do while waiting to get to school. People would have more time to do their online homework instead of just sitting in the bus doing nothing. Some problems will occur such as he students can play games or go on face book. I think that it’s not fair to charge people the same amount of money because some people might not use the bus’s Internet, so I think that people who use the web are the ones who have to pay more. Having Internet in the buses would make difference in behavior because students now are busy doing homework while waiting to get to school or home, so they probably won’t start teasing each other and climbing over bus seats. About 50% more homework would be done if the school has Internet in the buses.
I would really really really want to have our buses converted to Internet Buses. The internet could be really slow and the use of bandwith would be used a lot. You could get viruses which could risk your internet. The advantages would be that you could do homework on the bus and its a place where you can relax and just do your business. I think it is fair because nearly all teens use the internet and it would be a great benefit to the teens. A fee would be nice because nothing is free and the should keep track of it. It would make a difference in behavior because everyone is occupied instead of talking with each other. I would get a lot of home work done if i had internet n the bus.
I would feel that the school was becoming over eager for the future. Also if you were to convert say 25% of buses into Internet buses. This means that you are giving the students certainly the chance to become ore studious but you are also giving them a limited time on the Internet that is pretty much completely unregulated. This also means that the school in question would have to revise their rules so as to also regulate internet use outside of its borders despite the fact that the bus drivers would probably make certain that the students weren’t doing anything against the rules that the school had set in place. The advantages of this conversion would certainly be many but so too would the disadvantages. One such advantage would be that having the internet available on the school bus would mean that those students who were working on other homework deep into the night and didn’t have time to email such homework to respective teacher or to print such an assignment out. In internet being available on the bus means that that student can now send the requisite assignments to the appropriated teacher. A second advantage would be that if the students have a chance to do all their chatting on sites like Facebook and Twitter on the way to school then there is the possibility that by doing so they can get that desire out of their system so to speak and therefore avoid getting into trouble at school for doing so. There would certainly be many difficulties that this would create. Not the least of which would be that the school in question may not be able to afford this service over any long term period. Another such danger would be that the students especially those that can claim seniority (that is that they have been at a school for a long duration) might one day either move or graduate to a school (college or university) that might not have this same service. This means that a habit the student has fallen into will no longer fold true at his or her new location or destination. This suggestion is somewhat problematic for a number of reasons. The first of which for families who don’t exactly have a stable financial standing might find this imposed fee something of a burden as would the child once he or she decides to try to become financially. Another such difficulty would be children with family members who for reason or another have descended into alcoholism. This means that the families money which is already being squandered may be in more so by the school if it becomes too used to this new source of revenue may abuse it or worse may increase the fee of use slightly. This last question has no true answer because it would depend on the size of school, its location and the amount of assignments that are given. But I would say that nonetheless the amount of finished might slowly but surely increase if this service was put into place and thereafter into effect.
I would love it if the school changes the buses to Internet Buses! We could submit our homework on the way to school; we can do last minute research on something. We can have fun and chat. We can read books too. It could only be fair if the bus ride was over 30 minutes, and the school should pay the 60 dollars, its not like we don’t pay an arm and a leg for the tuition. You could charge a JD or something. In our school, it is kind of weird how well behaved the kids are in the bus, they don’t even have a bus attendance (like most schools here.) anyone can finish at least 1 assignment in the bus.
